What is Writelike app?

Writelike is an Australian learning site and app that has been developed for learners and educators to utilise all the best things about online learning to extend their writing skills and competencies, especially in terms of writing more complex pieces such as stories, reports and arguments.

What we love about Writelike

Writelike is pretty brilliant. For young people it aims to help teach them more intensive elements of learning how to write. Its focus is to provide challenging but not overwhelming texts and teach users about the patterns within these texts so that they can be copied and recreated. Presented by providing users with the right amount of scaffolding to support them and then giving the opportunity to practice the user's all round experience is enhanced.

What skills does it improve?

Writelike app allows users to improve their writing skills and competencies especially when it comes to more advanced and creative aspects of their writing. By hoping to fill the gaps where classroom and curricular constraints of teaching writing fall down the overall aim is to help students write more fluently and competently.

What age is it appropriate for?

Writelike , I would suggest would benefit students from around the age of 10 and upwards as the content is more advanced than giving a basic teaching and understanding of writing. As the aim of the site is extend and further develop students writing abilities there does need to already be an amount of competency from the user.

Is Writelike easy to use?

For both the learner and the educator the app is incredibly easy to use and access.

How will students benefit?

Students will benefit from lots of aspects of the site. Firstly from the actual learning and content of the site they will learn how to improve their writing skills by understanding patterns in different types of texts but secondly from the way the information is given students will benefit from the ability to spend time practicing all the aspects of the learning too. This increased exposure to quality texts and writing will also have the knock-on effect of helping to improve the users reading and spelling skills even though this isn’t the primary aim of the app.

How will teachers benefit?

Teachers can also make use of this site by setting students further to complete, utilising the ready-made lessons and the lesson practice within the site to further the lesson learning or to actually utilise within the classroom setting. Extra work can be set for students to complete at home and with the ability to see how well each student is doing learning can also be personalised.

How will parents benefit?

Parents, especially if they encourage their child to use the site will be able to see them expanding their writing skills. They may also decide to use this in collaboration with their child’s school.

What Writelike can improve on?

There are not too many things that I can suggest that the site improves as it has been well developed and thought out. However, I would suggest the amount of content but understandably there are limitations to how much can be created as the site is based on grant funding.

As previously mentioned the site is based on grant funding so is completely free to use.

Is Writelike safe to use

Writelike app content is completely child-friendly and contains no content that could be considered inappropriate or unsafe for children.

Overall rating of the app

Writelike app has received a 5 star EAS rating and this is due to the premise of the site, the learning within it and how the site goes about teaching the users. I was very much impressed by all aspects of Writelike.
