VideoProc Vlogger

The VideoProc Vlogger online application can be downloaded for both Windows and Mac desktops via the company website (www.videoproc.com/video-editing-software). Once the software has been downloaded the computer systems hardware is scanned for suitability and optimization.

The project panel window pops up automatically and enables the user to create a new video project title, frame rate and resolution up to 4K/120fps. This incredibly powerful editing tool has an uncluttered interface with easy to follow menu systems. Creating your first project couldn’t be easier.

For our first video, we will use 1080P/30fps most commonly used in this type of video software. The top left of the interface displays the media library where our clips are stored for our videos and audio. Other menus in this section include transitions between clips, titles that can be added and Effects that include a wide range of styles. All of these features are easy to access, employ and present a wide range of options.

The middle part of the interface displays the preview panel where the user can monitor video editing in real-time. The right-hand menu is called the inspector panel where properties of the videos can be changed including, opacity, colour filters, transformation such as scale, position and orientation, compositing and more.

Once your clips have been imported into VideoProc Vlogger they are ready for editing. Videos and audio can be managed easily using the timeline displayed at the bottom half of the screen, these can simply be dragged and dropped. Once the media is added they are displayed as a video track, overlay track, effect track, audio track or subtitle track. 

When importing an audio file several options can be applied. These include Audio tracks, background tracks and an effect track which are displayed in the timeline on the bottom left of the interface. The audio can be edited in several ways using fade in and out, equaliser settings, mute, invert and much more. Sound can also be recorded using a microphone for commentary and tutorials.

Lengthy video files can be edited using the split feature by dragging the timeline to the right enabling frames of the video to be seen in more detail. Split the clip by using the split tool in the toolbar and customise accordingly. The frame speed rate can also be edited for wonderful slow-motion editing. Click the desired video and use the speed tool and use the speed rate window to customise accordingly using the bullet points. There are many speed bezel curves to choose from to get you started. 

Once the video has been split we can add transitions between clips. The transitions menu in the top right enables to user to choose a range of transitions between video frames. These include wipe-up, swirl, swap, pixelize, squeeze to name but a few. Double click to preview the effect, then simply drag your desired transition into place. 

The colour inspector can create colour enhancements that can be used to intensify or match your video clicks for a seamless output. Using the 3d LUT’s in the colour editor palette enables the user to choose pre-set colour effects. Other effects can be added using the effect option in the top right of the screen. Double click to preview the filter effects and simply drag them into the effect track for stunning, unique results.

Text and descriptions can be added to your video by clicking the Texts menu in the top right of the screen. Pre-set templates make it easy to drag and drop into your timeline subtitle track. Using the text menu the user can add an array of texts, animations, size, position, colours and font, all of which are displayed in the text sub-window before applying. 

Once the editing is complete and your video is ready to export click the export button, enable hardware acceleration for encoding and edit the export features such as frame rate, video quality and format and much more. Your video is now ready to share!

The menu systems are very easy to understand especially when previewing effects before they are applied in separate sub-windows.

What we love about the VideoProc Vlogger App

This application delivers on many levels and we particularly enjoyed the following: 

• We simply love the fact that the application has many supporting tutorials that walk the user through the software. 
• The developers have thought of everything! The options, filters and menu systems are endless. 
• The ability to see the effects and changes to the video in real-time is ideal. The preview windows help with fast editing and make the process seamless. 
• We love the timeline and how the tracks are stacked on top of each other making it easy to see partial parts of the video and where they start and stop. The ability to lock and hide these tracks is also useful.

What the VideoProc Vlogger App could improve on

VideoProc Vlogger is an excellent application and there is a limited amount of improvements that can be made, however, we have suggested the following:

• We would like to see a range of videos that have been edited already. A library of templates where students could drag and drop their videos into a preloaded template for fast editing. 
• A colour coding system in the display interface could be beneficial such as making the timeline section of the screen red or the media library menus blue. These could help students recognise which parts of the software display have which actions.
• Could the software make suggestions? A video could be enhanced further if the software automatically made suggestions about clipping, positioning, sound levels and more.  
• We were unsure if there was live support for the application.
