Best ACT Prep Apps

Best ACT Prep Apps

There’s no doubt about it – the ACT are incredibly important tests. With so much riding on your score – college admittance, scholarships, potential jobs or internships, etc.– you’ll want to be as ready as possible when test day comes. There are several ACT prep apps available. With every lesson at the palm of your hands, you can track your test prep progress and prepare for the test wherever you go.

The best Test Prep apps will offer hundreds of practice questions for you to hone your skills. The questions should be presented in the same format as the questions that appear on the ACT/SAT, and they should be roughly as difficult as the questions on the official practice tests. Each question should provide a thorough explanation, so you’re able to understand how to correctly answer all of the practice questions.

If you have an ACT prep app on your phone or tablet, you can conveniently study for the ACT wherever you are, whether that's at home, school, or a boring family function.

Here are the best ACT prep apps to help students prepare for the ACT exams.

This ACT prep app focuses on the skills you'll need to master on the test, rather than replicating ACT test prep questions exactly. This app offers the same features including flashcards and practice questions. Your strengths and weaknesses can be tracked as you answer questions and move along the roadmap, so you have an idea of your average score throughout the experience.

Allen Test my Prep

3. Allen Test my Prep

(Android, iPhone, iPad)

This incredible ACT prep app offers tons of helpful features with step-by-step lessons and customizable ACT practice tests. This ACT app has easy-to-follow answer explanations with 100+ virtual flashcards.

Initially, you take a diagnostic test, whose results the app uses to customize a course of instruction for you. Because there are just eight questions on the diagnostic, though, it's possible that the app won't accurately determine your current ACT skill level.

This app is definitely one of the best free ACT prep apps, with its solid content instruction, high-quality practice questions, and complete answer explanations. But it's not perfect.

First, the content instruction is pretty brief, so it might not be enough if you’re struggling with a particular ACT topic. Also, the user experience isn't ideal. For the Reading and English questions, the passages and their questions are on different screens, and it was a little difficult for me to find the underlined portion of the passage for the English questions.

ACT Prep Flashcards

4. ACT Prep Flashcards

(Android, iPhone, iPad)

This ACT app, which was designed by the tutoring company Varsity Tutors, has a ton of features, from practice tests and single-section diagnostic tests to questions of the day and flashcards with practice questions and explanations. You can also make your own flashcards and find a tutor via the app. You’ll have to pay for the tutor, though.

The app's major benefit is its wealth of practice questions, and since they're divided by topic, you can drill your specific weaknesses.

ACT Test Prep - Math Practice

5. ACT Test Prep - Math Practice

(Android, iPhone, iPad)

The app is well-designed, with step by step instructions for its use. It begins with the basics and moves on to smaller and smaller units of study. This would make a great study tool before taking the ACT, but is more useful for those who are unhappy with their score and want to better it, especially if one section is significantly lower.

The app covers all the question types and prompts you’ll encounter in the English, Math, Reading, Science, and Writing tests.
