About Word Waze Fun

Word Waze is a game-based app that has been developed to help strengthen children’s use and understanding of commonly confused homophones and homonyms. Through playing games children work their way through the main game in the app which requires them drag the correct homophone into the correct gap on the sentence. They are then rewarded with unlocking further elements and given points and prizes.

The developers of the app have also designed a tracking system within the app to allow users to gauge their overall performance in each of the grades and then also a summary of how many correct answers they had worked through in that grade too.

Word Waze Fun Review

What is Word Waze app?

Word Waze app is an app aimed towards young children to help their understanding and use of homophones and homonyms through playing games and earning rewards.

What we love about Word Waze

The Word Waze app has a number of really good features that make it a great app for young children to use both in educational and home settings. One of these features is the ability to see a ‘Report Card’ of how well a user has done through the game. This can be viewed by clicking on a separate menu and can be used by adults and professionals to see how well they are doing. However, children themselves are also able to keep a track of their own scores and how well they are doing to encourage them to challenge themselves to keep playing to improve upon their schools.

The extra features within the app are also the things that really make the app. Extras such as being able to change the difficulty level of the app dependant on the child’s age, playing a daily word game and earning stickers for the completion of different levels. All of these elements really add value to the gameplay of the app.

What skills does it improve?

Word Waze app is a language learning app. Using it, children are able to develop and further their understanding and use of some of the biggest and most common mistakes when learning the English language. Due to the aims of the app it also means that it is of value to a large age range of users and also abilities including SEND students and EAL children too.

What age is it appropriate for?

Word Waze is rated for children between 4 and 14.

Is Word Waze easy to use?

The app is incredibly easy to use even though there are extra features within the app users can access. I would suggest that for the younger users of the app they have an adult to assist and work with them to get the most out of the app but as the age of the user increases their ability to use it on their own increases too.

How will students benefit?

Children will enjoy the experience of playing the games in the app and working their way through the exercises whilst also challenging themselves to keep improving upon their scores in each of the levels.

The interactive elements of the app will really engage them into wanting to use the app and the way the learning is set out it allows the child to continually practice and repeat the learning so they can improve over a period of time.

How will teachers benefit?

Teachers can make use of children using this app at home with the parents as well as being able to access the students report card to see how well they have done, what levels they have completed. Using this information, they would then be able to personalise the learning for each of the different users.

How will parents benefit?

Parents, especially if they interact with their child during the app (for the younger users) have a lot to benefit from it. The app allows parents to see how well their child is doing in the app from the scores they are receiving and from their report card.

What Word Waze can improve on?

There are so many really good features within the app; the actual main gameplay but then also the extras such as the daily word game, the ability to see a report card and the fact that users are able to earn bonuses such as stickers for the completion of levels. All of this means that there is very little that I could suggest in terms of improvements.

A couple of potential areas where some improvements could be made is in the optimisation from ipad to iphone as when you use the app on the iphone the main menu button is slightly hidden at the edge of the screen. As there is also a large age range of users for the app potentially the design could be slightly improved for older users as the look of the app definitely suits the younger end of the spectrum.

How much does Word Waze cost?

Word Waze is free to download, however, to get all the features within the app you do need to pay. This is either through buying certain packs or buying the whole package.

What is included with the free version vs. paid?

The free version gives the user limited access within the app. The extended subscription packages allow access to all the learning within the app.

Is Word Waze safe to use

Word Waze content is completely child-friendly and contains no content that could be considered inappropriate or unsafe for children.

Overall rating of the app

Word Waze has received a 5 star EAS rating and this is due to the premise of the app, the learning within it and how the app goes about teaching the users as well the actual gameplay of the app too, especially with its interactive elements.
