About Word Sushi
Word Sushi is a very funny, fast paced and engaging app that will get your kids practising their spellings. It is an app that has been very well thought out and we loved playing with it. The app receives an EAS Certification of 5 Stars.
Word Sushi Review
The game has two options. You can either play as a two-player game in collaboration mode or, you can play in competitive mode with 3 other players. In the collaborative mode the aim is the same except that you must work together in order to achieve the objective! For example, you may be asked to complete a three or a five-letter word, five-letter word.
In competitor mode, the idea is that you create words from the moving sushi conveyer belt/table which rotates in the middle of the screen. You place them on your own plate and then “serve them to your customers”. The game is very similar to scrabble in that each letter or combination carries a certain amount of points. The more intricate the spelling (such as words using “-ed”, “-ight” or “-ing”) the more points that you earn! Each round is timed and at the end, the player with the most points is the winner.
This is a game in true “edutainment” format. It resembles a game of scrabble in that you must create words and think of spellings however, the setting of the game, the competitiveness and the collaboration features make it extremely entertaining. It teaches kids to think quickly and to learn how to work in a team or in competition. It can also further adult-child interaction. In a world where technology usage is usually a “one-person” and perhaps lonesome activity, it is very nice to see that up to four players can play on this app at a time. It makes for a very fun time... like playing old-school board games with the family! Furthermore, we loved the concept of being at a restaurant and having to serve customers on the “sushi letters”. The illustrations are beautiful, the concept is unique and the sound quality is amazing.
There is a parent section that allows you to see how many times you and your children have played with the app. There is a “social media” type section that allows you to see other app users from around the world and how they are interacting with the apps by the same developer, Fingerprint. This is also a section on which you will see the rest of the apps from Fingerprint.
Overall you will have a lot of fun playing with this app. Children will learn and practice spellings as well as engaging and learning how to work with others. It is a game that can be played in a light hearted moment in the classroom or at home as a play app.
