Wacki - Fun Youth Group Games Review

What is Wacki app?

Wacki app is like an encyclopedia of group games to play with kids. It explains the rules for loads of games in a way that makes them easy to learn. You can use the same videos you learn the rules from to illustrate the game to your kids.

Each game's description includes pertinent information. This includes the number of players, the length of the game, what skills it involves, and the best age range for the players.

What we love about Wacki

A few years ago, learning fun group games to use with kids usually meant knowing somebody who already knew a game. Printed resources are not ideal ways of discovering these games. You can learn a game in a minute if you watch others play it, but it takes much longer with a written explanation.

Then there is the problem of finding a game appropriate to the learning objective. If you're lucky, you might know a teacher with a game for every occasion whose brain you can pick.

Wacki solves both of these problems. First, its clear explanations and videos of kids playing the game teach the rules as effectively as if you were there. You won't have any rule confusion after watching the annotated videos, and you can still double-check your understanding with the written content.

Second, it contains loads of games, and the app tags them with useful descriptors that you can use to filter down to exactly the type of game you want to play. You don't need to depend on the knowledge of other teachers.

What skills does it improve?

Wacki is not an educational app aimed at the curriculum. Rather it describes games that can help refresh children, promote thinking skills, build teamwork skills and more.

By adding fun and a change of pace to children's activities, Wacki's games should help them stay focused and develop a rounded skillset.

What age is it appropriate for?

The games have different age ratings, which reflect their complexity. The easiest games to learn have a 3+ rating.

Is Wacki easy to use?

Wacki uses a common app structure that users should not find difficult to use. You can browse vertically through all of the games or restrict them according to filters. You can also use a search option.

How will students benefit?

Kids don't like being bored but, contrary to common belief, relieving that boredom doesn't require expensive resources. A good game that is readily understandable and promotes fun social interaction is all it takes. Kids whose teachers know a selection of games from Wacki will be lucky kids indeed.

How will teachers benefit?

Teachers who do not have a background that has taught them games like these may not know many. Being able to put a quick game together can be a lifesaver when faced with a class of kids and some time to fill. Whether it is for sports days, lessons on social skills and teamwork, or just for fun, schools should ensure that teachers have access to this app.

In fact, anyone who might be running kids' activities or youth programmes would be wise to have this app close at hand.

How will parents benefit?

Parents facing a house full of kids for a birthday party should make sure that they have one or two of these games secure in their minds. Filling time with a fun game if things don't go quite to plan might save quite a bit of stress.

What Wacki can improve on?

There are a lot of games that cover a lot of skills. It would be great to have a 'favourites' feature so that users can keep track of the games they like best and remind themselves if they don't play the games for a while.

The filters are useful to select games according to certain criteria. Group sizes, environment, and style are covered, but not the age rating. Some people might like to find games suitable for 4-year olds and below, for example.

How much does Wacki cost?

If you are interested in Wacki's contents, you can download the app for free. In this form, it includes a lot of content and you should be able to learn many new games from it.

What is included with the free version vs. paid?

Take out a premium membership to Wacki, and you get access to all of the content and the videos of the games being played. These are fun to watch, have useful notes, and are very useful for adults and children to learn the rules.

The free app and optional subscription feels like a fair way to assess the app and support its developers.

Is Wacki safe to use?

Wacki is designed for adults to use although there is nothing in the app that is unsuitable for children. Adults can show children the videos when teaching the game without any worries.

Adults will have to take responsibility for making sure that the games are played in a suitable place that is safe and that children behave appropriately during the games. The games looked at during this review of Wacki have all been appropriate for the indicated ages and looked to be great fun.

Overall rating of the app

Wacki as an app does not look especially novel, but the content it provides is not readily available elsewhere and certainly not in such a convenient and easy-to-use form. Many of those who work with children might not realise they need this app's contents, but it will make their valuable work easier, more fun, and more productive. Wacki is a 5-star app.
