About Udemy

Udemy is an app to find thousands of online courses, both free and paid. Udemy has hundreds of categories for learning about all kinds of subjects: from web design and photography to data analysis, personal development, and music. Udemy is available for free to download on iOS and Android device.

Udemy Review

Udemy is a site and app that provides online learning through video courses. The content is varied, and it’s geared toward personal and professional development.

Udemy is an online learning site that sells video courses on a wide range of topics. Its sweet spot is personal and professional development, with excellent management training, software tutorials, programming courses, and more. Udemy offers over 100,000 courses spanning a variety of topics including design, business, marketing, health & fitness, and personal development. With a little bit of searching, there is no doubt you can find a class peaking your interests.

With Udemy, you purchase classes on-demand. Once enrolled, you complete the class at your own pace. There are no deadlines. After you complete the class, you earn a certificate of completion which may be helpful if seeking continuing education units (CEUs), new employment, or a little extra money at your current job. In addition, you have lifetime access to the course so you can review the information anytime you want.

While Udemy offers a strong platform for self-paced, non-degree learning, it costs more than other sites and doesn't allow individuals to sign up for a subscription-style account. Other sites, such as Skillshare, which is an Editors' Choice, and LinkedIn Learning, do sell all-access subscriptions to individuals, making them much more compelling for continued learning and skills development. Our other Editors' Choices in the category are MasterClass and Khan Academy.

What are the advantages of Udemy

The instructors provide in depth explanations for the courses in a well paced manner. The topics in a particular course are divided into separate playlists of about 15-20 minutes length which does not make it boring and confusing. It is a well designed website that works perfectly both on android and iOS devices as well.

You can also set reminders for your lessons using the Learning Reminder feature. The settings let you choose what days and times you’ll like to get prompts to do your lessons.

Udemy issues you a Certificate of Completion when you successfully complete your course. Some instructors also add a perk like skill endorsement on LinkedIn to help boost your credibility.

How Udemy work for students

Many students complemented the instructors for putting together valuable, informative classes. The many choices for courses allows just about anyone to find something that interests them. Since classes are continually added to the platform, one has the opportunity to access the most recent information on any given subject.

Some students have found the site easy to navigate and access their courses. They find the classes easy to understand with videos, slides, and text lessons. The ability to complete courses at a student’s desired pace was a big advantage for many people with busy schedules. Another big advantage was the ability to take the courses on just about any mobile device.

Students also enjoy the interactive features like discussion boards to connect with the instructors and others enrolled in the course.

Can I download Udemy courses on laptop?

Learning on Udemy can be quite seamless with the Download feature. With this feature, you can download and save your lessons to your mobile for offline study. In addition to that, you can take notes while taking your lessons in-app using the Notes feature.

Are Udemy courses worth it?

Alternatives to Udemy

Udemy is not the only option for Online Course Providers. We have picked top Udemy alternatives for you; hope! You will be able to choose the best one:

Udemy for Instructors

Udemy has proven to be great for students with initiative who are driven to learn about a new topic. But what about instructors?

While many platforms offer instructors some form of compensation for designing and building courses, Udemy allows instructors to charge a tuition fee for each and every student who takes the course. Based on many a Udemy review, this can be both good and bad.

If you design a course that becomes the authoritative course on a given topic and earns tons of sign ups, you can make quite a bit of money. If the course doesn’t do well and struggles to find an audience, however, it can be tough to recoup the time and energy that went into making the course.

How Udemy Pays Instructors

Udemy is unique among websites in that it allows online instructors to post courses with the intent of earning money via student tuition.

Anyone can post free courses to the platform. To charge students a fee for your courses, however, you must be registered as a Premium Instructor. The good thing is: Applying to become a Premium Instructor is free, and the site says you’ll usually get a decision within two business days.

What are the disadvantages of Udemy

The one drawback for Udemy is that they don’t have a subscription model, so if you want to take many classes, you have to pay for each one individually. However, the app often provides significant discounts as the company is trying to attract more students.

Initially, many find the introductory rates very appealing. Of course, this is to lure new potential learners to the site. After one spends $10 to $15 dollars on a couple courses, they may be taken aback when they have to pay list price for future classes. The list price for classes varies, but it could be anywhere from $25 to a couple hundred dollars. Udemy, however, also offers free classes. Some students, however, find certain free classes nothing more than an easily found tutorial on Youtube.

Some students have troubles with billing and accessing their course. For example, some reviews talked about purchasing a class and then have no way of starting it. Reviews for customer support are mixed, with many people feeling frustrated and ready to stop using the site.

Udemy - Our Conclusion

Udemy is an online learning platform that features numerous video courses, including some on photography, web development and so on.

Udemy can provide a high-quality learning experience for students who are looking to master a skill and dive deeply into a topic. While it may not make the most sense for casual learners looking to take online courses on a number of topics, Udemy can be a great platform for people seeking to learn a new skill to help with their professional development.
