    Canva is an app to simplify graphic design. Now you can create anything—from posters, wallpapers, to book covers and all kinds of graphic designs - in seconds flat, with one single tool. Adding in design elements in Canva is easy. Start by picking out one of the pre-designed base mark-ups. From there, fit in decorative elements, your own trademarks, or images—anyway you want.     Autodesk Sketchbook is a professional-level digital sketching tool for serious digital artists.  Coming from a digital arts background, many of these "sketchbook" apps over the same experience, however this one hits the nail on the head from a learning standpoint. Used in many of my fine arts studio classes as an alternative to regular sketchbook assignments, students that were interested, downloaded the app and created their weekly sketches on their mobile devices. Images were saved and then turned in digitally through email or social media post. There is a bit of a digital learning curve, and those users who may not be familiar with the universal "image editing" vocabulary, may need to be brought up to speed. However, Autodesk Sketchbook does a great job at not overwhelming the user with too many bells and whistles, and puts the important tools right at the palm of the users hand. Autodesk Sketchbook is free for students and educators for three years.

    Skitch is a stand-alone app that is part of the Evernote suite of tools. Skitch allows you to annotate photographs, charts and PDF. This makes the app useful for highlighting, explaining, and for creating language practice activities. For example, the students can use the app to illustrate both grammar and vocabulary.
