Teacher Overview

Toontastic 3D is a powerful and engaging tool for digital storytelling and provides kids with a set of digital tools to create their own cartoons. It's visually appealing, has great in-app support and sharing features, and relies on self-created animation and narration to tell stories. Toontastic 3D provides a stunningly easy way by how it makes the complicated process of creating an animated short movie so simple.
The app allows kids to choose the characters and setting for each scene and animate their characters by simply shuffling them around with their fingertips as they naturally would when playing with, say, paper dolls. The app walks kids through the creative process with a plot/story arc template and concisely explains the fundamentals of storytelling (setup, conflict, challenge, climax, and resolution).
Toontastic 3D allows students to manipulate characters as they provide voice and narration for the story.  Toontastic 3Dmakes use of standard story templates that help guide students through the basic elements of plot (story arc) as they create their animated story.

Teacher Review

Toontastic 3D is an animation app to draw, animate and narrate adventures, news stories, science reports and other ideas of storytelling. The app is for future authors, directors, musicians and any one else who wants to turn their ideas to 3D cartoons. Toontastic can also be used by educators to create tutorials, explain projects, or even do morning reports.
With this playful storytelling app, kids can choose from three story options: short story, classic story, and science report. Each comes with a basic story outline -- set, conflict, challenge, climax, and resolution -- and a brief overview of what each plot point means. It takes about a minute to make a one-minute scene and you can add up to six scenes per cartoon.
A Story Arc is a scaffolding tool that helps you map out a story's plot. Whether they're learning Language Arts or Science, kids can practice communication skills using story arcs as formulas for convincing arguments. For each plot point, kids can use the included sets and 3D characters or design their own with simple drawing tools. Tap record to start moving characters and props around, explore the set, and narrate the story. Last step: Add an appropriate musical score. Once finished, story pieces are put together in a single video.
Toontastic works on phones, tablets, and select Chromebooks. Cartoons are not shared with Google, but saved locally in-app and on device unless you delete or export them to the photos app or library on your device.
