About Toca Life: Hospital

Toca Hospital is a delightfully animated app depicting a multi-level hospital. This app is highly recommended for elementary aged children. This app is excellent for teaching following directions, sequencing, basic concepts and storytelling.  It is particularly useful for children that have been hospitalized or have visited a hospital with a loved one.

Toca Life: Hospital Review

Toca Hospital is an interactive app for elementary aged children. The child can explore five floors of the hospital with different activities and experiences on each floor. The floors include a basement where the ambulance is parked, the main lobby and cafeteria, a lab and treatment floor with surgery and waiting rooms, a nursery and children’s floor and doctors offices. The children can place people on each floor and move them between floors with an elevator. There are also many interactive objects on each floor that the child can use, such as radios, bandages, x-ray and heart monitors, phones and fire extinguishers. In addition, the app allows the child to make a movie that records the actions within the app and the child’s voice as he plays. This can be replayed with the child to watch and hear.

How much does Toca Life Hospital cost?

Is Toca Life Hospital safe for kids?

Toca Life Hospital is safe for kids as this app that is designed with a child’s safety and success in mind. Featuring no in-app purchases and no third party advertising, Toca Life Hospital takes into account the concerns of parents while still providing an exciting platform for children.

What you need to know?

Kids can explore and create stories of their own in a virtual hospital that features everything from an ambulance to an MRI machine. Create your own stories using the characters and interactive objects available in each scene, e.g. take care for patients in beds, 'perform' a surgery, use various CAT/X-ray/USG machines, have a snack in the waiting area etc.

Kids will likely enjoy this more with a bit of adult guidance early on, especially if they've never been in a hospital before. The app has more than 30 characters of various ages, genders, and ethnicities. Kids add or remove characters from the screen by dragging and dropping from the sidewalk menu.

There are a lot of areas and tools that they won't be able to identify, such as the X-ray machine, surgery area (with oxygen mask and spare organs, all of whom are inexplicably smiling), and laboratory. The character options are quite diverse in age and skin tone (there's even one with a nose ring), although kids may not find a child who looks "just like" them.

Kids can learn more about hospitals and what to expect, as well as give them a platform to talk about their experiences and concerns. However, this hospital leans toward the silly side. There are what seem to be germs and organs with smiley faces sitting in jars and on shelves and plenty of animal characters. Younger children may use the app but would require more adult instruction or assistance while using the app.
