About Ticket to Ride

Ticket to Ride is an app that is one of the most well-known post-Catan board games nowadays.

Ticket to Ride Review

What do we like about Ticket to Ride?

The Ticket to Ride USA map and card set are included in the standard app, however, expansions that add new cards and/or maps can be purchased as in-app purchases. To win the game, which is centred on card drafting and set accumulation, you must finish as many routes as you can.

The tutorial differs from what we are used to in that it doesn't steer you in a particular direction with predetermined options and card draws. We don't mind at all because it gives you the freedom to decide for yourself and observe the results.

What skills does it improve?

Players will probably have a decent understanding of the rules by the end of the lesson, which spans the entirety of a two-person game. However, scoring may still be a little hazy until the player has played a few more games. It takes about 15 minutes to complete the tutorial the first time, which is a little longer than a typical single-player game will usually take once you are familiar with the rules.

What age is it appropriate for?

Ticket to Ride is appropriate for all ages.

Is Ticket to Ride free?

Ticket to Ride is available and free to download on all Android and iOS devices.

Is Ticket to Ride easy to use?

The app Ticket to Ride looks amazing and well complements the game art. When playing on a phone, claiming a route is simple to overlook. Although the game makes things easier by including a small crosshair, and if you hover for a long enough period, you'll even earn an extra zoom. It stays true to being an accurate version of the board game, and it does this job effectively. Outside of the menus, there aren't many bells and whistles added. If you're short on time or don't want to play the game itself, the tablet version of the game looks nice enough to serve as a suitable substitute.

How will students benefit?

A turn in the game Ticket to Ride has three possible outcomes: creating a route, drawing a card or cards, or drawing more ticket cards. To arrange your trains on the map, known as a route, you must play sets of coordinating coloured cards. Depending on how long each journey is, you receive points for it. After the game, you are awarded points for each completed ticket. A ticket will mention two cities; to complete the route, you must have a contiguous route between the cities. After the game, you will lose points if you still have any unfinished ticket cards in your hand. Throughout the game, all ticket cards, even full ones, are kept a secret from other players.

You will compete with rivals for a limited number of cards and route options. You have two options: you can actively try to obstruct their pathways so they can't finish tickets, or you can avoid the conflict and focus solely on finishing your own. Although the game is easy to learn and play, there are several techniques to consider.

There are an astonishing number of ways to play once the expansions are included. Although this isn't the most complex game in terms of strategy, the effort to reproduce it and provide a strong online player community has been successful.

What can Ticket to Ride improve on?

The biggest drawback of Ticket to Ride is that solo mode doesn't have any difficult AI. This is the only significant flaw but if you plan to play multiplayer, you can overlook it. Broken notifications, on the other hand, are more difficult to ignore at the moment.

How much does Ticket to Ride cost?

Ticket to Ride is available at the cost of $8.99.

Final thoughts

Ticket to Ride's accessibility, simplicity, and track record as a gateway game has made it a modern board game classic. Because of its outstanding multiplayer capabilities, the app is a true adaptation of the classic game and can stand alone for a very long time. The playing possibilities are as extensive as you could wish for in a port, and the controls are generally smooth.
