Starfall ABC

Starfall ABC is a solid early-learning app with a thorough approach to presenting the alphabet to Preschoolers. Pick a letter and away your child goes. Watch the twinkling arrows or letters to indicate move to the next page. Hear the letter name, hear the letter sound, see the letter and see a word using the first letter sound. Starfall's free ABC printouts provide practice in writing and have suggestions for phonemic awareness activities to assist parents and teachers.

Starfall ABC brings each letter to life with pictures, animation, games, songs, and stories. Using a clearly articulated voice, each letter is identified by name, sounds, and words. Children interact with each letter by tapping, sliding, sorting, and dragging objects through five or more screens of engaging phonics learning. Many of the letters include real pictures as well as animations. The most exciting part of this app may be the sign language animations from the bottom menu. Starfall ABC is a must-have app for children learning their letters, letter sounds, and beginning reading skills.

Kids hear the sounds of each letter repeated often and can both hear and see how each letter is used in words. Each word has some cute animations they can trigger, followed by interactive games such as puzzles and mazes, as well as chances to see words used in sentences. The letter-U pages in this ABC section contain some CVC examples. This is further expanded in Starfall's Learn to Read section with systematic and explicit phonics instruction.

This app helps children work on letter recognition, letter sound and sight words to increase vocabulary. Starfall ABC is great for auditory and visual learners and is quite interactive. Developmentally disabled students who are either non-verbal, having difficulty with beginning sounds, or are not native English language learners have benefited from this app. It is a great addition to a Preschool, kindergarten or first grade class when learning the letter of the week.
