Speech Blubs

We have completed a Speech Blubs review to help you decide if this app could benefit your child's learning. We have found that the Speech Blubs app continues to be our go to app for Speech therapists and educational staff for supporting speech development. The latest update has provided additional activity areas which include an endless array of mini games, exercises, videos and stickers. Additionally, the Speech Blubs app has been updated to include UK English language modelling which is a welcome function. Spanish has also been included. Adding Who, What, Where and When questions have been added to prompt conversation. 

Why we love the Speech Blubs app

As soon as we started our Speech Blubs review, we knew it would be a very useful speech therapy app to use in our classrooms. Working in a school for Autism, many of our children have complex communication needs with the majority being non/minimally verbal. Speech Blubs has been a huge hit with children, teachers and Speech therapists alike with it being the go to app in supporting our young people with their language development.

Is Speech Blubs is to use?

When doing our Speech Blubs review we found the initial set-up is very straightforward, and you can begin using the Speech Blubs app in no time. We absolutely loved the self-assessment report you complete at the beginning, an excellent feature that I believe is absent in apps of a similar nature. Having showed some of the reports to our Speech Therapy team, all agreed that the reports were a good reflection of each child and would be beneficial to educational staff in addressing the difficulties our children have in expressive and receptive language skills. The self-assessment tool is very easy to complete asking a series of questions about developmental milestones. Speech Blubs app collates the information you have provided and generates a PDF report identifying difficulties and offering guidance so you can support your child. 

What skills does Speech Blubs help develop?

Speech Blubs can be used alone whilst working 1-1 with a child but we have also connected the tablet to the class whiteboard for bigger class activities as the app fits nicely with phases 1/2 & 3 from the UK 'Letters & Sounds' program. The children we have used Speech Blubs with have thoroughly enjoyed using the app and we have noticed an increase in language articulation, we can’t ask for more than that. Speech Blubs intuitiveness, excellent video modelling, fun photo filters, reward system and developmental coverage make it arguably the best speech articulation app on the market. That being said, I believe that the pricing structure could be more reasonable, however this does not detract from a wonderful app and I am sure further additions to the application itself will make Speech Blubs great value for money. It is clear that the developers have based the app on evidence based research and come from a Speech Therapy background. I believe Speech Blubs is a must have application for all schools supporting children with language difficulties.  Well done Speech Blubs team.

Having used many speech articulation apps, this speech therapy app is really engaging and fun in comparison. Imitation lies at the heart of each area giving children plenty of opportunity to copy the articulations made by the engaging young actors. Children can also watch themselves articulate alongside the model which is a fantastic feature especially for children on the autism spectrum. Once a child has practiced the articulated sound they receive a sticker which really keeps the child engaged. There is also a fun facts section in some of the areas which our children really like and a snapchat styled photo area which can be shared with others, this alone has made it hugely popular with the kids. The Mouth gym area is one of my favourites, different oral exercises are modelled with a rationale of what the aims of each are. This feature is really beneficial for teaching assistants with little experience in supporting children with expressive language difficulties.
