Sight Words Ninja

Ever since the Fruit Ninja game appeared on the scene, kids have clamored to play slicing games. Now they can slice while they master basic sight words! The app moves through three levels of difficulty, increasing speed and challenge at each level. This will help young readers get really, really good at these words that must be memorized so they are recognized automatically. With similarities to Fruit Ninja, kids will be hooked on playing this best sight word app.

The app allows for adjustment and changes to the word lists, presenting them in ABC or random order, adding your own voice overs, and removing sight words from lists if you wish.

Occasionally a word never completely arrives in the frame, defeating the purpose of recognizing whole words on sight. Also, there is little necessary thought involved to earn points, and no clear consequence for slicing an incorrect match.  There are times when the sound does not work, and the app must be restarted a few times to work correctly. Most primary aged children will not have the patience for constant restarts.

• Add it to a literacy center rotation so students have another way to practice their sight words on a regular basis. 
• Have it as an option for free time or for early finishers. 
• Make it a competition! Have students race to see how many sight words they can get in the amount of time given. Students can race against themselves to beat their own high scores or against other students.
