Teacher Review

The application can support parents, schools and businesses. For this review, we will focus on the mobile device usage of a child from the viewpoint of a parent. The application supports a number of key features such as supervising your child’s web activity, reporting daily on web activity, setting device screen time limits and much more.

The application is supported by the online platform that is very easy to download via the software’s website. The app itself supports the software and has to be downloaded by both the parents as well as the child. The online platform is very intuitive, incredibly informative and easy to set-up. We suggest that starting with the online portal dashboard is the best method.

Upon opening the application, the user is required to sign into their account. A series of screenshots demonstrates the power of the application via a web tour which can be by-passed.

The ‘home’ screen displays the children that have their devices connected. It is noted that the app will only control what happens via the Qustodio app although there are some flexibilities for scheduling when this happens. The app design itself is clean and intuitive with simple navigation menus and icons.

The top left allows the user to access their account where they can find setting such as ‘Your Devices’, ‘Your Account’ and ‘Your Family’.

Once the child has been selected from the ‘Home screen’ the app displays a simple to read Activity tracker where parents can set time limits and block days from mobile use.

Once again devices can be added manually and details can be edited.

The ‘Rules’ icon enables the parent to set a number of rules for the child’s device. These include daily limits, restricted times, web filtering, games and apps filtering, calls and SMS monitoring, location tracker and social media monitoring. The application’s real-time filter also blocks inappropriate content even in private browsing mode.

The ‘Restricted Times’ setting is an excellent feature; here screen time can be restricted throughout the day. The numerous options are excellent with some truly innovative features such as the ‘panic’ button which is a great idea for safeguarding.

When using the application on the child’s device you are requested to sign in as the parent and follow to instructions to allow a profile to be set up. Once complete parents can access their child’s mobile activity via the online dashboard. This dashboard is very easy to understand and is presented in a clear and easy to use manner.

Tabs at the top of the dashboard include:

Activity Summary – Parents can see a summary of all of the activity of the child’s mobile usage. The tracking is instant and displayed clearly in a pie chart.

Social Activity – This displays your child’s mobile social activity such as social media apps.

Web Activity – This displays your child’s mobile web activity and the pages they have viewed or tried to view.

Activity Timeline – This displays opened websites, location and mobile activity in an easy to read vertical timeline for the day.

Rules Settings – This tab gives a summary of the websites that are restricted which can be edited. There are also features for time usage, application blocks, device locking, social monitoring and so much more.

In an age where children seem to be constantly connected to their mobile devices, this application is a godsend. The developers can be praised for designing a unique piece of software that is easy to understand and has a number of unique features for monitoring mobile usage. Parents can be reassured that this app has been designed with them in mind enabling both total control and flexibility of their child’s mobile phone. Not only does this app provide peace of mind for parents what to know what their child is viewing and for how long but also provides a platform for safeguarding and locations. This application comes highly recommended by the
