The home screen displays all of the mathematical topics in a clear and accessible way. There is the option to turn the sound and narration on and off in the top left-hand corner.

Counting Fingers - The user is encouraged to tap the screen with their fingers suggested by the narration. Each correct answer is celebrated by an exciting illustration. An incorrect answer shakes the graphic as an incorrect response. This is great fun and encourages the child to think carefully when counting and placing with their fingers. It also helps to promote fine motor skills when counting.

Money - The user is encouraged to match pairs. These include monetary sums matched with coin illustrations. A correct answer reveals part of a picture. An incorrect answer reveals a shaking square for the user to try again.

Place Value - The user is encouraged to tap the number of blocks to match the number shown at the top. A correct answer reveals an exciting illustration and sound. An incorrect answer reveals a shaking button for the user to try again. It is noted that there is a scoring system in this game, with up to 10 correct answers.

Time – The user is encouraged to match the correct pairs between digital and analogue clock times. A correct answer reveals part of a picture. An incorrect answer reveals a shaking square for the user to try again. In this instance the finished game reveals a dinosaur moving illustration and fireworks display.

Spaceship Sums – The user can choose number 1 to 5 or any number. A simple sum is shown as spaceships. Add the two numbers together and choose the answer from below. It is noted that there is a scoring system in this game, with up to 10 correct answers. There is also the added feature of the light bulb which displays the number as counters when pressed.

Preschool Math Galaxy is an incredibly powerful application and the menu systems and features are very easy to navigate. The application has a clean look to the interface and the graphics are user friendly. At no point does the screen look over cluttered. Each of the menus can be easily accessed and the gameplay works seamlessly. We love hearing the encouraging narration and watching the celebration screens!

Parents can set their child off and running with the application with very little support from the outset. Not only is the application great fun it also has educational value improving math ability. The range of levels are good for differentiated learning and there are topics for everyone.

• The developers might consider the splash screen to be displayed longer when the application is first opened.
• The developers may want to add information to where this would fit into the educational curriculum for certain age groups such as Key Stage for the UK market and the Common Core standards for the US market. Parents are often keen to know that games such as these do have a real educational value that is linked to official curriculum content.
• The developers may want to consider a scoring system for the topics to enable the user to monitor progress, correct and incorrect answers and guesses.
• The developers may consider a limited number of questions as we often found ourselves waiting for the topic to end.
• The developers may consider an option to change currency within the Money Topic.
• The developers may want to limit the number of guesses the user has. Often our user did not know the answer so guessed multiple times.
• The developers may want to consider an option to repeat the audio instructions.
• The developers may want to add sequenced learning to the application. Which areas should they try first, which are the hardest?
