LOU ADVENTURES: READING GAME is an app that has been designed to help young readers improve their reading ability, their enjoyment of reading and the opportunities for them to access reading in a fully immersive, fun game setting. Designed with educational professionals the app utilises a number of different features to make sure that young children are able to improve a number of different areas of reading, comprehension and also speech.

The app is very simple to use and has been designed to a good quality with both graphics and also sounds, The game allows the user to read aloud and have their voice recorded so they can listen back whilst also hearing another voice read with accuracy the text. This means that the user is able to improve their own pronunciation of words as they have the opportunity to read aloud as well as hearing how the words are supposed to be read.

The app requires the user to have a knowledge of reading and the English language and wouldn’t be able to teach someone very young or new to the language how to read and speak. It requires a certain amount of proficiency in reading, both aloud and in the user’s head and being able to follow text as it is read to them. However, this is not created as an app to teach users how to read but how to improve their reading abilities as well their comprehension abilities too.

There are a few different elements to the app all aimed at helping to improve confidence and enjoyment in reading, something which is incredibly important. The game play and adventure style aspect of the app really hooks the user in however it is the added elements, that a child will probably not be aware of that helps make the biggest improvements in terms of reading. User must listen carefully to instructions, read both quietly and aloud and then listen back to an accurate version of the words all of which means that the child is being fully immersed in the language, helping them to become more proficient.

LOU ADVENTURES: READING GAME is an app that helps users to develop children’s confidence in the English language as well as comprehension through a series of games and puzzles and a fully immersive game. Children work their way through reading and listening to the elements of the story needed to help them work their way through the game. The game has been developed alongside educational specialists so it is clear to see that the app has a clear focus on all the elements of a game that will make the most amounts of improvements as possible.

What we love about LOU ADVENTURES: READING GAME

Everything about this app is really good. However, the one aspect I really like is the parental side of the app and the dashboard that allows them to see how well their child is progressing through the app and listen back to their reading to see their child’s proficiency levels. This aspect really lifts this app above similar apps on the market who just focus on the maybe the game and the language aspects but not the ability to track or personalise learning.

What skills does it improve?

LOU ADVENTURES: READING GAME app improves users’ confidence in the English language, as well the reading comprehension, love of reading and also their spoken language abilities too.

What age is it appropriate for?

LOU ADVENTURES: READING GAME app, I would suggest is aimed at children who already have a sense of proficiency in reading and not aimed at those who are in the early stages of learning. I would therefore suggest that it is best for children between 6-8.

For the user the app is incredibly easy to use and access.

However, they will also benefit from being to track progress and personalise any learning. They can utilise the ability to listen back to students’ reading to see how they are progressing and if they need to encourage any specific aspects to aid improvement.

How will parents benefit?

There are many benefits for parents too, all very similar to how teachers will benefit. They will have the knowledge that their child is accessing and reading a great interactive story that will improve their pleasure around reading as well as being to track their progress to see how well they are doing too.
