Lotti’s World - First Words Review

The application Lotti’s World - First Words is a pre-school and toddlers’ game-based app to improve their intellectual, physical, and social-emotional development under 5 core areas: Memory, Problem Solving, Learning Ability, Creativity and Attention. The educational games are suitable for ages 2,3,4,5,6 years old toddlers and preschool children. The application is available on the iOS platform and works well on a mobile and tablet device in landscape mode.

The application focuses on voice and object association games using memory recall. The app contains three levels: Level 1 - Learn voice and object association, Level 2 - Matching the correct object from three, Level 3 – Memory Recall.

The child is greeted by a delightful Home screen and sound. The graphics are beautifully presented and would appeal to the specified target market. The top left displays the ‘Parental Settings’ icon which is number protected. This gives the parent access to the following information: The ability to turn music on or off, to turn Lottie’s voice on or off, links to social media, unlocking the full version of the application, restoring previous purchases, the privacy policy and how to contact the developers.

The Home screen displays 9 themed topics areas: The Farm, Picnic, The Zoo, The Bedroom, Clothes, The Bath, The Kitchen, The Playroom and the Living room. Each of these areas can be accessed with a touch of the icon and selected by scrolling to the left or right. The user interface here is easy to navigate and scroll for even the tiniest of hands. For this review, we will focus on three of the topics themed areas.

The Farm – Lottie explains the task at hand. “Place the picture where it belongs”. Select and drag the pictures from the right-hand menu and place them into the silhouette areas. Each animal is described audibly and the game is completed when all the pictures have been found.

The second game displays the animal shape along with the spelling. Once again, the user can drag the picture to the corresponding word. Lottie encourages the child along the way. A completed game is celebrated with flying balloons!

The third game asks the user to place the correct animal into the pictured environment such as a cow into the farm rather than a giraffe. The graphics are delightful and the gameplay is very intuitive. A completed game is celebrated with flying balloons!

The Picnic – Lottie explains the task at hand. “Place the picture where it belongs”. Select and drag the pictures from the right-hand menu and place them into the silhouette areas. Each picnic item is described audibly and the game is completed when all the pictures have been found.

The second game displays the object shape along with the spelling. Once again, the user can drag the picture to the corresponding word. Lottie encourages the child along the way. A completed game is celebrated with flying balloons!

The third game asks the user to place the correct object into the pictured environment such as a sandwich into the picnic rather than a giraffe. A completed game is celebrated with flying balloons!

The Bath– Lottie explains the task at hand. “Place the picture where it belongs”. Select and drag the pictures from the right-hand menu and place them into the silhouette areas. Each bathroom item is described audibly and the game is completed when all the pictures have been found.

The second game displays the bathroom object along with the spelling. Once again, the user can drag the picture to the corresponding word. Lottie encourages the child along the way. A completed game is celebrated with flying balloons!

The third game asks the user to place the correct objects into the pictured environment such as a mirror into the bathroom rather than a giraffe. A completed game is celebrated with flying balloons! It is noted that any of the game formats can be returned to by pressing the back icon in the top left-hand corner of the screen.

Parents can set their child off and running with the application with very little support from the outset. Parents will be reassured to know that the application is child friendly and at no point can the child access any unwanted in-app purchases, inappropriate content or in-depth menu systems. The parent will be delighted to know that their child is well on their way to recognising their first 100 words.

What we love about the Lotti’s World - First Words app

We love the simplicity of the game yet it displays great educational value by supporting children with their creativity, fine motor skills and problem-solving skills giving them all the tools for their first 100 words. The graphics, animation and calming music are appealing and ideal for the chosen target market.

What Lotti’s World - First Words app could improve on

Lotti’s World - First Words app is an excellent application and there is a limited amount of improvements that can be made, however, we have suggested the following:

It is noted that many of the options within the ‘Parental Settings’ push the user outside of the application to external platforms. Maybe this could keep the user within the application?

The developers should note that all primary school children learn lowercase letters first before they move onto capitals. They may want to change the uppercase words shown in game 3.

The developers may want to consider a scoring system to account for the right and wrong answers. You may find that the child often guesses the object or animal several times. This way parents could monitor words that are recognised by the child rather than simply guessed.

The developers could consider a playtime limit for those parents who wish to monitor their child’s screen time.

The developers might consider the ability to add multiple accounts for other children from the family or classroom.

How much does Lotti’s World - First Words cost?

Lotti’s World - First Words is free to play without limits and offers further in-app purchases to themed content.

Is Lotti’s World - First Words safe to use?

Yes. The application does not require an account and email to start with. Parental controls are number protect which is great to see. The developers have ensured everything you view is age-appropriate and secure. Lotti’s World - First Words is free from in-app adverts and is 100% safe for children.
