Rosetta Stone’s is the best language learning app for you to learn a new language. With interactive and contextual lessons blended with Extended Learning features, you can count on Rosetta Stone’s Dynamic Immersion® method. It’s all available literally at your fingertips, anytime, anywhere, through any device, online or off.
Rosetta Stone is designed very differently than most language apps that are on the marketplace today. In other words, it’s trying to teach us English the way we’d learn it if we were children starting to learn the language. Each language has a variety of lessons that Rosetta Stone has been using for years to teach people. It's a good way to go if you're looking for a tried and true method. Rosetta Stone is also available both on iOS and Android. Both the mobile app and desktop come with your subscription, and are always in sync, so you can switch between devices at your leisure.
Rosetta Stone provides two language learning solutions: an online subscription plan for both in-browser and mobile version and an instant downloadable CD-Rom option for a computer.
The Rosetta Stone app gives you the flexibility to surround yourself with your new language, whenever you wish, and wherever you are. Download a language learning unit and complete it in your spare time. These 5-to-10 minute Rosetta Stone language lessons can be done while you wait in a long line, or for a friend to show up. The possibilities are endless.
Within the platform, you’ll see that all words, phrases and audios are in English. It’s that immersive of an experience! On top of its learning component, it also has a platform where you can schedule lessons with a live tutor every other lesson. So if you enjoy practicing English by talking to native speakers, this might be a great bonus feature.
Speech recognition within the platform has also been praised because it has been designed to specifically recognise pronunciation of non-native speakers. I’m sure you can relate – but when we’re learning a new language in the beginning, there are a lot of words we know but end up pronouncing in a weird accent, which can result in a raised eyebrow or a frown from native speakers. The enhanced speech recognition really helps offset this.
The Rosetta Stone mobile app makes improving language skills feel fun, and easy to achieve. Every lesson is highly structured and designed to teach patterns evident in all languages from Level 1 through 5. Level 1 starts with basic conversational skills such as greetings and how to navigate an unfamiliar city. Skills then progress until you reach Level 5, helping you to develop enough language skills that you are able to converse with native speakers with confidence.
What Languages Does Rosetta Stone Teach?
Excluding American and British English, Rosetta Stone has programs for 23 languages: Arabic, Chinese (Mandarin), Dutch, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latin, Persian (Farsi), Polish, Portuguese (Brazilian), Russian, Spanish (Latin American and European), Swedish, Tagalog (Filipino), Turkish, and Vietnamese. Not all languages are available on all platforms. Rosetta Stone no longer offers Indonesian, Dari, Pashto, Swahili, or Urdu in its consumer-grade learning programs.
How much does Rosetta Stone cost?
Depending on the plan you choose, Rosetta Stone costs from $5.99 to $11.99 per month. It has subscriptions for three months ($35.97), one year ($170), two years ($249), and a lifetime ($299). The available discounts will have you paying closer to $120 per year, $170 for two years, and $199 for a lifetime. Keep in mind, a one-year or longer subscription now includes access to all the language programs.
A subscription includes all the lessons via web browser and mobile apps for Android and iOS. You can download lessons to the mobile apps to do them offline, too. Rosetta Stone's pricing is on the high end compared with other language-learning programs, although you can almost always get a discount.
Is Rosetta Stone worth it?
With a fairly low monthly cost and bite-sized lessons, Rosetta Stone is a solid alternative to expensive language courses you never have time for. It is definitely worth it.
Rosetta Stone Kids
Rosetta Stone Kids Reading blends research-proven technology & award-winning interactive gameplay to build kids' reading confidence. Designed by early education experts to accelerate reading skills development, Rosetta Stone Kids Reading offers a personalized adventure through ten levels of lessons.
If you also enjoy the reading content, you might be interested in another language-learning app called Beelinguapp. It has a variety of texts for different skill levels and on different topics in 13 languages.
Overall, I have to say that this is a pretty intensive method. But if you’re a language enthusiast (and a purist at that), then this might just be what you’re looking for.
