Kurious Review

What is Kurious app?

Kurious is an American app that has been designed to encourage a love of reading in young children and to help them to improve upon their reading and to become more independent in their reading too.

What we love about Kurious

What I really like about Kurious is how bright and engaging it is to use. As soon as the app opens up you feel welcomed into the learning. Alongside the simplicity of the interface this feature makes you want to use the app. This is really important when it comes to reading apps as many focus too much on the skills and not the enjoyment that reading can give.

What skills does it improve?

Kurious app allows users to improve their reading skills by working through a large number and varieties of books. Aimed up to age 11 there is a plethora of books that can help children to progress as they become more confident and competent with their reading. However, there are also a number of different scaffolds available to support children when they may struggle, such as the option to have narration turned on.

What age is it appropriate for?

Kurious is aimed at children up to the age of 11. However, the younger the child the more support they are likely to need from a parent.

Is Kurious easy to use?

For both the learner and the parent the app is incredibly easy to use and access.

How will students benefit?

Students will benefit from having access to a number of fun interactive books that they can read for enjoyment and to help improve their reading abilities. There a number of different elements within the books to support students, such as a narration option but also other interactive elements in the books to help engage students.

How will teachers benefit?

Teachers can benefit from suggesting parents and children use the app at home. They can personalise the learning but suggesting certain titles to use.

How will parents benefit?

Parents, especially if they encourage their child to use the app will be able to see them expanding their reading abilities and their love for reading. They may also decide to use this in collaboration with their child’s school.

What Kurious can improve on?

There aren’t too many things I would suggest to improve upon however, having used this app on a tablet and a phone a tablet seemed to fit the app much better. With my phone some of the text on the books seemed to be missing of the bottom of the page so this may be something to look at.

How much does Kurious cost?

Kurious is free however there are options to purchase more books.

What is included with the free version vs. paid?

With the free version the user still gets a large range of books to read. Currently there is one paid book content published in the app for $0.99

Is Kurious safe to use

Kurious app content is completely child-friendly and contains no content that could be considered inappropriate or unsafe for children.

Overall rating of the app

Kurious app has received a 5 star EAS rating and this is due to the premise of the site, the learning within it and how the site goes about teaching the users. I was very much impressed by all aspects of Kurious.
