Kokotree: Preschool Learning Review

What we love about Kokotree

Kokotree has a simple and effective design. The app is divided into two programs, ‘Budding Sprouts’ and ‘Little Seeds’. Each video in the Budding Sprouts section has a beautifully illustrated animal front cover to engage the children and is titled with the educational objective e.g. ‘Single Letter Phonics’, ‘Counting 1 to 10’. This allows the parents to quickly guide their child to a video relevant to what they want them to learn about. The Little Seeds program is full of nursery rhymes, sing-alongs and stories to widen their vocabulary and develop their understanding of the world around them. The app also contains letter tracing games and animal inspired bedtime stories. Videos can be downloaded for offline use.

What skills does it improve?

Kokotree utilises friendly animal characters to teach children about a multitude of different concepts, developing all of the child’s primary cognitive skills: reading, learning, remembering, logical reasoning, and paying attention. Through the videos, songs and activities, children will learn about phonics, the alphabet, numbers and much more through their animal character teachers. Children will also begin to develop their musical skills as they join in with the songs extending their vocabulary and developing their attention skills through rhyme and actions.

What age is it appropriate for?

Kokotree is suitable for children from aged one to five years old.

Is Kokotree easy to use?

Kokotree is easy to use. The layout is clear and straightforward for a fast and easy experience with bright colours to engage children and clearly titled videos showing the learning the outcome to help busy parents quickly select relevant content.

How will students benefit?

Students will develop their primary cognitive skills through the app: reading, learning, remembering, logical reasoning, and paying attention. Students will enjoy using the app interactively with parents, singing along and rehearsing key concepts. Children will also develop their musical skills through the songs whilst also broadening their understanding of the world around them.

How will parents benefit?

It is quick and easy for parents to introduce this educational app to their children who will soon be absorbed in the fun and interactive videos. Each video contains a detailed description for parents about what the child will learn, highlighting the benefits and also suggesting parent-child activities and reinforcement to help ensure that learning from the app is maximised. It explains concepts like phonics clearly so that parents can fully support their child in their learning through the app.

The app is free to download and try out for parents to assess the child’s engagement before subscribing.

How will teachers benefit?

Kokotree has been tested and approved by teachers and experienced educators. Teachers can use the app as a fun way to introduce and help students practice aspects of the curriculum such as phonics, numbers and colours. Kokotree could also be used as a reward for classwork completed whilst still ensuring that learning is present as students enjoy watching the videos or singing along to the songs.

We think Kokotree could improve on:

It would be beneficial if the songs in the app had the words to them appearing at the bottom to aid the sing-along for parents and introduce key words to older children using the app.

The letter tracing games are useful and it would be nice to see the games section of the app expanded to include more interactive content related to the videos in the other sections.

How much does Kokotree cost?

Kokotree is free to download. Premium access grants access to the ever-expanding library of videos and can be gained for a subscription fee of £9.99 per month or £99.99 for the year.

Is Kokotree safe to use?

Yes. In app purchases and settings have a parental block on them and there are no chat features in the app. The app's privacy policy and terms of service are available on the website.

Overall rating of the app:

Kokotree blends education and entertainment, effectively encouraging children to learn at home. I would recommend this app to any parents who are looking for an easy and engaging way to help their child prepare for school and help boost their child’s intelligence.
