Teacher Overview

Faces iMake is creation based app that lets you make faces out of everyday household objects. It has an interesting feature called Faceworld that allows the children to showcase the artwork they made using the app. In FaceWorld, you can view pictures created by artists all over the world.

Teacher Review

This app skews a little younger because it introduces kids to each letter of the alphabet. Its magic is how it associates a letter with an object. The objects are all constructed out of collage materials; and they come apart in the form of a puzzle. Kids get to put the object back together by tapping and dragging the parts to the outlined shapes.

The app uses intuitive controls for manipulating objects on the canvas. You can work in both portrait and landscape mode. You can watch lesson videos by Israeli mixed media artist Hanoch Piven to inspire your next work.

Since this app is coming from the brilliant iMagine machine team, expect these objects to be highly creative and unusual. For example, with the "G-"for-girl puzzle, kids recreate a little girl from lollipops, a button, a funnel, bananas and "L" shaped pieces of wood. When a child slides the piece to its correct location, she is rewarded with a special silly sound. These puzzles, one for each letter of the alphabet, draw kids in and make playing with ABCs fun. Plus they help teach young children that there are lots of ways to create objects.

Faces iMake includes:

  • 5 video lessons on creativity by Hanoch Piven himself, geared for all ages.
  • A new set of Backgrounds which trigger and spark the user to rediscover familiar shapes and enhance them in a unique way.
  • A gallery of 20 inspirational images created by the Piven family (different age groups using the app)
  • A music player which allows for music to be played while creating.

Faces iMake was developed with renowned artist, children's book author and educator Hanoch Piven and is based on the highly acclaimed creative workshops he has conducted all around the world. Piven, whose art has been featured in publications such as: Time, Newsweek and The New Yorker.
