Curious World

Curious World: Play Learn Grow is a mix of kid's streaming site, children's library, activity pack and a source of creative ideas.  As such, children can sit back and watch, pick a book to read, explore an interactive activity or gain some ideas for making something in the real rather than the virtual world.  All the while they will be learning while having fun. 

What we like about the Curious World app

There are lots of preschool apps available to download but we found after completing a Curious World review that this app is one of the best! The videos are entertaining and educational and include some quite frighteningly catchy songs about diverse topics such as space, health, vehicles, animals and more. Parents and children will be humming some of the tunes to themselves well after Curious World has closed. 

There is a broad and well-made selection of books for children to read or have read to them.  These include fictional tales such as classic fairy tales and the adventures of the children's favourite, Curious George. Factual books cover topics including a wide array of machines and vehicles. 

Another set of videos that often relate to the above topics encourage children to do something practical away from a screen.  These may involve obtaining a few items for your children to use but they do not tend to need anything that is difficult to obtain from typical local shops. 

Everything in this preschool learning app is produced to a very high quality.  The artwork is consistent within each section but varied across the Curious World app as a whole.  Animations are colourful and smooth and books are well illustrated in whatever manner suits the topic best.  Songs are played clearly, books narrated with feeling and inflection,  and the activities are enlivened with appropriate sound effects. 

Is the Curious World app easy to use?

Preschool age and young children will not struggle to find their way around the app. The content is categorised in a clear way either by topic or by activity style.  Parents can use the app to dramatically expand the amount of reading material that they can share with their children because, while the stories can be narrated, they include the option to be read as a normal book.  In this mode, parents can use it to read along with their child. 

Parents who are less artistic will find the suggested craft activities in the Curious World app useful to choose something to do that does not involve a screen.  Together, parent and child can make something together, and as well as have fun, learn too.  From the practical skills used in the craft itself to making a shopping list and going out to buy the materials, these guides can provide the spark of inspiration needed for a great educational experience. 

With so much content, the Curious World app has to download it on demand but the parental section has the useful option to preselect material to store on the device for when no internet connection is available.  Parents can also look at how much time their children have spent on the different activity types to see if children are using it to its fullest potential. It is no wonder after completing a our Curious World app review we give it two thumbs up!

Curious World is free to download. You can complete a Curious World app review yourself because there is a 7-day trial period before you begin the monthly subscription proper.  When you consider how much it would cost to buy physical versions of the included books alone, the monthly fee seems excellent value.  This is an app crammed full of fun and educational material in many different formats and covering many different topics - you won't regret taking a look.
