ClassDojo Review

What is ClassDojo

ClassDojo is a classroom management tool that enables schools to bring parents, teachers, school administrators, and students into classroom communities so they can track and enhance classroom behavior in real-time. ClassDojo is free for teachers, families and students.

ClassDojo Features and how it works

Engaging School Communities

ClassDojo is a free app that helps build amazing classroom and school communities. Teachers give feedback to students for any skill, like “Working hard” and “Being curious.” From the mobile app, parents view their child’s feedback, message directly with teachers and school leaders, and see beautiful photos and videos of classroom moments.

Track Student Behavior

ClassDojo digitally tracks each student’s behavior through the addition and subtraction of points that fall in specific categories that can be designed by the teacher and/or children. The purpose is to reward or deduct points from students for the behaviors that they are displaying and the choices they are making.

Provides Immediate Feedback

It provides positive feedback to the child while they are doing well by displaying the behavior for which they earned a point, their rising point total, and by playing a cheerful sounding “ding”. It also provides informative feedback to the child if they make a poor choice by displaying the inappropriate behavior for which they lost a point, their decreased point total, and by playing a more striking negative tone.

Students and Parents Involvement

ClassDojo helps academic institutions engage students and parents through customized messages, images, and videos. It authorizes teachers to make and share online portfolios, letting students and parents log in by scanning a QR code and write journal entries, record videos, and submit work via images.

Safe, secure and fully compliant

All of your child’s information is kept safe on ClassDojo. Only they, their teachers, and you as their parents can see their information. ClassDojo is COPPA-compliant and fully support FERPA.

How much does ClassDojo cost?

ClassDojo is completely free to download and use. However, there's also ClassDojo Beyond School, which families can opt for by paying. This premium option provides extra features and helps support the costs associated with the basic free service. It offers a seven-day free trial and can be canceled at any time. It's important to note that ClassDojo does not feature any third-party advertising, ensuring that all class, teacher, student, and parent information remains private and confidential, without being shared with external parties.

ClassDojo for Teachers

ClassDojo also helps teachers to communicate with students’ parents more effectively. Parents are able to view their child’s feedback on ClassDojo, teachers are able to instantly message them with important updates, share photos and videos to their Class Story. Parents can send teachers messages too. For parents who are unable to access the internet or do not have a smartphone, teachers are able to print out their child’s feedback for the week or month, and send it home for them to see.

Teachers can create their own targeted behaviors as needed. Reports are calculated each time student's points are updated and these can be shared with the students and parents if they accept your invitation to an account. It can be used to a small or large extent depending on your time, purpose, and interest.

As part of the behavior management system. the students receive points for specific behaviors (On-task, working hard, persistence, etc.) and receive negative points for negative behaviors such as being off-task, bullying, or blurting out.
