A great app that helps children learn their times tables through gradual introduction, pictorial representations, practice and repetition.  Correct answers immediately proceed to the next question, avoiding any time wasting, while incorrect answers are corrected for the child to see.  These are then recorded and repeated at the end of each session, ensuring children understand and remember the correct answers, thus encouraging mastery.  Finally, statistics, are available to the user allowing them to identify their strengths and weaknesses.

2x2-4 by Aplemakh Bros is a simple app aimed at improving two kinds of arithmetic operations: multiplication and division. With built-in multiplication tables and a maths game similar to pirate ship battle games, the app will for sure prove a hit with the kids. Games can be personalized and set to focus only on a certain range of derived equations and this is helpful if you identify what the areas are where your child needs a little bit more practice. The app received a 4 star EAS Certification, and what’s more educational institutions can download it at a discounted rate.

From esteemed educational publisher DK, 10 Minutes a Day Times Tables works on the theory that children learn best in short bursts. It tests them on their tables from 1x1 to 12x12; you can choose whether to do them in order or out of sequence.   Children race against the clock by answering times tables questions. Their car advances for every sum they get right, with the aim of beating the app to the finishing line. Questions increase in difficulty as children progress: initially, they’re tested on their times tables in order, then randomly, and then through missing number questions (e.g. ? x 12 = 24).   If they get a question wrong, they can attempt it again, and the app also gives them handy hints if they’re stuck on a particular question. They win trophies for every round they complete.   Once children have mastered times tables in order, they can choose to do mixed times tables challenges, where they’re tested on number sentences from three different tables at a time.

World famous rock musicians are the best at what they do because they've spent hours practising guitar chords, writing music or playing on the drums. It's just the same with times tables – all Times Table Rock Stars need to practise and practise and practise. It's essential that your child does a little bit of times table practice every night. In my experience, short bursts of daily practise are more effective than spending hours once a week.
