    SmartFeed is an interesting app designed to help the parent/carer curate appropriate media into one intuitive programme based on a set of criteria determined by the child and/or the adult. As a parent rightly points out on the feedback video, when we were young we only had three TV channels to choose from, actually with me it was two, but now the children have a tremendous choice which can be delightful, but also daunting and dangerous.

    The Link4fun Books - Animal Books application is an app that teaches children about the world of animals in a fun and interactive way. The app is designed to be a companion to the Link4fun books and there are hidden magnets embedded in the pages of the books which allows the compass in the iPad to read which page you are on. So, when you turn the book page to the Elephant, the app recognizes this and brings up the elephant learning activities. It is noted that there is also an option to explore the app if the user does not have the book. The app is free from in-app purchases but does include links to the Link4fun books that complement the app.

    Noisy Bug Sing Along is an interactive app based on the best-selling book of the same name, published by a company dedicated to encouraging kids to appreciate nature. Written, illustrated and narrated by a bug expert-and with the help of recordings of the actual insect sounds-children will see and hear insects as they actually move their bodies to make sounds, and sing along! It’s a fun way to encourage children to go outdoors and observe nature closely. This educational app helps with cognitive development and communication skills in young children, and has some academic relevance in that it teaches children how sound waves are created and what they look like in graph form. The app is aimed at years 4 and above.

    Nighty Night is one of our favourite apps for young children. The app is a bedtime story for toddlers that shows a number of farm animals going to sleep. The appeal of Nighty Night! is in the beautiful illustrations and the soothing tone of the narrator, the simple storyline and all the unexpected things animals do as they fall asleep.

    Pinocchio is an interactive version of the classic children's tale by Italian author Carlo Collodi about the puppet who wishes to become a real boy. There's no voice-over or read-along, so parents will need to read the book to younger children.
