    Fret Zealot is an intuitive, innovative and fun way to learn to play guitar, bass and ukulele. Fret Zealot app is available for free to download on iOS, Android and fully-guided courses and song videos are also available via the web browser (inclusive of Bluetooth functionality), at lessons.fretzealot.com.

    Chordify provides the learner with the chord charts to play along to any desired song simply by searching within the app. You can switch between viewing chords for guitar/ukulele or piano. The songs that you search for are saved in the user's library where they can be added to favourites or offline mode allowing the user to access these without a Wi-Fi connection. Chordify is an app available for free to download on iOS and Android devices. The ‘discover’ section of the app allows the user to select chords that they can play or wish to practice and the app will then find them songs that use these chords. Each of the play along chord videos is synched with the original YouTube track from the artist which appears in the corner of the screen. There is the option to adjust the tempo of the track and volume of the metronome or chords sounds so that the learner can play the song at their own pace. The app is also available in seven languages that a user can switch between: English, Dutch, French, Spanish, German, Italian, Portuguese.

    Fender Play is a subscription based service for anyone wanting to learn guitar, bass, ukulele or a combination of these instruments. The easy to follow instructor-led video lessons take the learner from absolute beginner, through to developing the skills required to be able to learn riffs, chords, read tabs, play scales and conquer their chosen guitar pieces across a range of genres. Fender Play is available on the Apple App Store, Google Play Store or by going to the website.  The app provides choice for this learning journey. The user can select to follow their path through staged learning lessons or choose particular songs that they want to learn or use the ‘Skills’ section to explore specific genre playing styles and techniques. Created by the famed Fender brand, an annual subscription comes with 10% discount on any Fender gear the learner may wish to buy to support their guitar playing.

    Playground Sessions provides students with high quality interactive lessons created by world-class teachers. The app provides real-time feedback on the playing accuracy of the musician when a midi keyboard or electric piano is plugged into the user’s device. There is a large song library which can be organised by difficulty level/genre/song title covering a wide variety of genres including pop, classical, contemporary, R&B/Soul, rock, film/TV/musicals, jazz, country, Christian, gospel and more. Throughout the app there is the choice of learning each song at different difficulty levels. The learner is motivated by the playing time log, stored note accuracy scores and total points toward levels collected and displayed in the user’s dashboard. Playground Sessions is available for download on iOS devices. The android version will be releasing soon. Playground Sessions works on PC and MAC devices as well.

    Mini Piano Pro is a simply-designed app that allows users to utilise the app by learning how to play the piano across a range of different sonorities and timbres. It allows you to play any music that would be accessible via a keyboard regardless of genre or ability. However, there is more depth than this.  Mini Piano Pro allows you to record audio for any piece that you are playing, save this as a file within the app, and then play these back. Additionally, with the Android version, you can also learn different songs with falling blocks. Additionally, there is also MIDI support on the Android app so it can be connected to an external MIDI keyboard. Whilst this is suitable for age 4, the main suitability is based on the ability and skills of the player intended. It is compatible with Android, iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch, and requires iOS 12.0 or later. It can also be used on a MacOS 11.0 or later, and requires the Apple M1 chip or later. It also has an Android version.  The app is free to download with the Lite version, which is the same as the Pro version, except for an ad banner. There are no other adverts on top of this, and the Pro version has no ads at all. It develops skills in performance and building repertoire.

    TunyStones Piano is a piano/keyboard interactive, musical notation reading and playing app for young children aged approximately 4-8 Years.  TunyStones is an educative science-based game created by music educators for teachers and students. Tuny, the game character, reacts to the piano notes that the player presses swimming through rivers and jumping from stone to stone when the correct notes are played on the students instrument. There are three main chapters within the app with different mountain peaks to represent the levels of difficulty. There are 63 levels within each chapter with improvisation and note readings tasks as well as a whole chapter dedicated to composing music.  The app evaluates the child’s pitch accuracy in performing the melody, showing them immediately if they have played each note correctly or not when Tuny - the game character either lands on a stone or falls in the water. The maps clearly show the users progress within the app with stars highlighting their achievement at each level.

Justin Guitar is a visually clear and stimulating step-by step approach to learning guitar. The app includes over 1,000 hit songs to play along to which are organised according to ability levels and the amount of chords learned by the user.

    Piano by Yokee is a piano-playing game where you use your touchscreen to play all kinds of songs, from Fur Elise by Beethoven to Paparazzi by Lady Gaga or Rehab by Amy Winehouse. In total there are more than 100 songs at your disposal. In the beginning, not all of them will be unlocked, but as you play, you'll be able to 'buy' new ones with the game's currency. You can also buy this 'ingame' currency with real money, but it's not necessary.
