    Rosetta Stone is designed very differently than most language apps that are on the marketplace today. In other words, it’s trying to teach us English the way we’d learn it if we were children starting to learn the language.  Each language has a variety of lessons that Rosetta Stone has been using for years to teach people. It's a good way to go if you're looking for a tried and true method. Rosetta Stone is also available both on iOS and Android. Both the mobile app and desktop come with your subscription, and are always in sync, so you can switch between devices at your leisure.

    Busuu is an interactive, language-learning app gradually guides the user through the study of a new language. Busuu is available via its browser-based platform at busuu.com and via apps for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Both the website and busuu app are user-friendly and simple to use. The languages you can learn at Busuu is quite impressive, ranging from Spanish, French, Italian, German, English, Chinese, to 6 other languages. Busuu languages is geared at regular interval learning, whereby little and often’ will reap the greatest rewards, as part of a daily schedule in the app’s ‘Study Plan’.     Pimsleur is an app that offers 51 languages to learn, but delivers the information in what is basically the form of a podcast. Essentially, you'll choose the language you want to learn and begin a 30-minute auditory lesson (which are downloadable and Alexa-compatible). The app also has a driving mode, so you can improve your skills during long commutes without looking at a screen.  You get a seven-day free trial. An Audio-Only subscription costs $15 a month, while a Premium subscription, which includes the 12 top selling-languages, is $20 a month. Features include reading lessons, roleplaying challenges and digital flashcards.

    Duolingo is a free language learning app designed to help you learn languages easily. It's extremely well designed for on-the-go learning, thanks to short lessons and a simple user interface. Duolingo is designed for English speakers to learn more than 30 languages, including German, Spanish, English, Italian, French, Chinese and more. This free language app works well on both desktop and mobile devices. This app is available on the App Store for iPhone, iPad and Google Play for Android.
