LOU ADVENTURES: READING GAME is an app that has been designed to help young readers improve their reading ability, their enjoyment of reading and the opportunities for them to access reading in a fully immersive, fun game setting. Designed with educational professionals the app utilises a number of different features to make sure that young children are able to improve a number of different areas of reading, comprehension and also speech. The app is very simple to use and has been designed to a good quality with both graphics and also sounds, The game allows the user to read aloud and have their voice recorded so they can listen back whilst also hearing another voice read with accuracy the text. This means that the user is able to improve their own pronunciation of words as they have the opportunity to read aloud as well as hearing how the words are supposed to be read. The app requires the user to have a knowledge of reading and the English language and wouldn’t be able to teach someone very young or new to the language how to read and speak. It requires a certain amount of proficiency in reading, both aloud and in the user’s head and being able to follow text as it is read to them. However, this is not created as an app to teach users how to read but how to improve their reading abilities as well their comprehension abilities too. There are a few different elements to the app all aimed at helping to improve confidence and enjoyment in reading, something which is incredibly important. The game play and adventure style aspect of the app really hooks the user in however it is the added elements, that a child will probably not be aware of that helps make the biggest improvements in terms of reading. User must listen carefully to instructions, read both quietly and aloud and then listen back to an accurate version of the words all of which means that the child is being fully immersed in the language, helping them to become more proficient.

Word farm Adventure is a word game app that aims to help users develop their reading and particularly their spelling abilities. The app’s design is fantastic and looks and feels just like some of the best game apps available. From looking on the developer’s website it is clear to see that they understand their client base and also the reasons why their app works well in the market as well as the benefits of a word play app on literacy developments for children. Users are able to extend their vocabulary and spelling abilities by working their way through a series of word games getting increasingly harder as the user progresses through the app. Alongside the actual word play game runs a story about trying to renovate a farm. Each level completed earns the user the ability to renovate the next part of the farm, whether it be a gate or fixing a piece of machinery. The more money a user earns from completing the levels, the more renovations they are able to make. The actual game itself is based around the idea of crosswords. The user is given a circle of letters at the bottom of the screen (the number related to how far they have progressed through the app and so the difficulty). They then must look at the empty crossword grid at the top of the screen and then join the letters up at the bottom to make words that fill the crossword. When are words have been selected from the letters the level is complete. As mentioned, the difficulty level increase as users make their way through however, there is support within the app to help if it becomes too difficult.
