Bookvo English Stories & Audio Books Review

What is BOOKVO app?

BOOKVO is an app that aims to support those users who are wishing to learn English through giving them access to a wide range of books and specialised learning tools to help them become more fluent in the English language.

The app is geared towards users who are learning English as an additional language. Within the set up of the app when you first download it, the app offers a personalisation asking the users for their home language. Within the app there is a lot of support for users and one of best features is an instant translator. Knowing the home language allows the app to translate any word that a user comes across into their home language, aiding them in their learning as they use the app.

Another aspect of personalisation in the setup allows users to set their confidence levels with English as one of three different levels. This then personalises the books that are specifically chosen for the individual to access and to read. Although users can read any of the books through the app there is a specific ‘for you’ selection that takes into the information they have input during setup, including their confidence level but also their interests too.

Once the user has gone through the setup and has access to the library and the main content of the app it is laid out in a very sensible manner, allowing users to easily navigate and find what will work for them. The layout is very similar to that of film an TV subscription services so if you are familiar with Netflix’s layout you will find yourself at home with this app.

The app doesn’t just work on reading the books that are available or having them read to you. On the bottom of the screen there is a menu that allows you to select ‘words’ and ‘learning’. The ‘words’ section highlights keywords to be learnt and allows the user to click on them, see the word translated into their home language, hear how it should sound and also see examples of it being used in context. As the user reads more books it gauges how much access they have had to this word so they can see the frequency they have come across it.

What we love about Bookvo

There are a number of really good things about the app, in fact it’s difficult to not like everything about it. The developers have clearly thought long and hard and have developed a program and app that work incredibly well. I particularly like the ability to have the learning slightly tailored to the user depending on their home language with aspects created to support users in a more personalised way.

What BOOKVO can improve on?

This is really difficult as I can’t see anything that the developer hasn’t already thought of to make this an effective learning tool. It is very user friendly, the look is pitched perfectly for the age group that would access the app and all the features of the app go towards creating the most efficient learning environment. One thing though that could be developed is having a selection of newer titles available for users to read rather than ones that are available through free licensing however, I understand that this would impact on the cost of the app.

Overall rating of the website and app

BOOKVO app has received a 5 star EAS rating and this is due to the premise of the app and the learning within it.
