About ASL Bloom - Sign Language

ASL BLOOM is a fantastic app that has been designed to help users learn American sign language or ASL. The app has been created to help users learn, and become more proficient in using ASL so they can communicate with others who use it if they are deaf or if they need to learn how to teach someone else who is deaf to use ASL. Likewise the app could be used by someone who is already deaf and wants to learn ASL so that they are able to communicate with others too. The apps entry level starts at basic so if you are new to ASL you can easily access it but likewise if you have some knowledge of ASL you will still be able to access and gain a lot from the app.

The app introduces learners to small, bitesize chunks of learning, hoping to not overload them and keeping it very simple through a series of activities aimed to help the learner gain as much understanding and learning as possible. There are a large number of filmed tutorials in the app that show someone using ASL correctly users to make the link between the ASL and the actual meaning. As the user works their way through the lessons with words and phrases being added and learned one at a time the user is able to go through a number of different types of activities to make sure the word is fully learned. Through this series of repetitive learning activities it’s hard not to learn ASL!

There are a number of other different aspects in the app too such as a searchable dictionary which shows you a video of your search term. There is also a feature in the app that allows the user to test their knowledge through a test and flashcard activity. This helps to make sure they have learned the words they are currently working through and also allows some personalisation to the learning too as words can recovered depending on how well the user does on the test.

ASL BLOOM is a sign language app that helps users to develop users abilities, knowledge and use of American Sign Language or ASL. The aim is to help them become proficient so that they are able to communicate with other users of ASL or to be able to teach someone else how to use and communicate with ASL.

What we love about ASL BLOOM

There are a number of really excellent aspects within the app but the thing I like the best has to be the actual content and learning within the app. There are so many video tutorials showing so many aspects of ASL that you really wouldn’t be stuck for any learning at all. These are all in bitesize chunks too so as a user you really like you are progressing and not being overloaded with anything too difficult. The way the learning is introduced also is so simple yet incredibly effective. It’s would be very difficult to work through this app and not learn a lot about ASL and how to communicate with it.

What skills does it improve?

ASL BLOOM app improves users’ confidence in ASL as well as their abilities in being able to use it to communicate with others.

What age is it appropriate for?

ASL BLOOM app, I would suggest is aimed at everyone who has the ability to be able to read instructions from children through to adults.

Is ASL BLOOM easy to use?

ASL BLOOM is incredibly easy to use and access.

How will students benefit?

Students will benefit from being able to access an app that will build their confidence when it comes to using ASL and being to communicate with it.

How will teachers benefit?

Teachers will benefit from students working their way through the lessons and becoming more capable and proficient in using ASL. They will also gain from being able to personalise the learning through suggesting specific topics and lessons for their students to be working on.

How will parents benefit?

There are many benefits for parents too some of which will be similar to teachers’ in the way that they can personalise any learning in the app, however for parents it could also be useful for them to use alongside their child in learning ASL so they can do it together or just as a parent using it so they can communicate with a child who uses ASL

What ASL BLOOM can improve on?

Having spent a lot of time on this app I really struggled to find anything I could suggest that they improved upon. The developers have designed a fantastic app that really does simply and effectively take users through all the basics of learning ASL with excellent lessons, a fantastic learning structure and amazing, learner friendly graphics.

How much does ASL BLOOM cost?

ASL BLOOM is free to download then there is a subscription-based service. There are a number of options available from monthly to yearly as well as a premium service but there are also discounts available depending on the option you pick making it more affordable. The subscription service definitely works out as good value for money with the amount on content that is available for the differing price structures.
