About ANTON: Kindergarten - Grade 5
ANTON is an app and online learning portal for students, parents and teachers to utilise. Linked to the curriculums of all the languages it caters for it is jam packed with learning. Boasting over 50,000 exercises it contains interactive elements, feedback, games and explanations all aimed at supporting young people to learn. The learning within the app/website covers English, maths, science, the arts and music following set lessons and learning with activities in each topic.
With home learning and home schooling being a major factor in the education of children across the globe in the last couple of years this app/website takes advantage of this and uses all of the aspects we have become used to in blended learning to produce a learning platform that can be used anywhere, whether it be in the classroom or in the home.
Users are able to select the subject that they wish to focus on and then follow a set of directed learning opportunities or lessons through a series of games. Parents and teachers are able to create classes, assign any homework that they wish and then track the learning progression of the users involved. This information can then be used to personalise any learning or to bridge the learning between school and home.
ANTON: Kindergarten - Grade 5 Review
What is ANTON app?
ANTON an app and website that has been designed as a learning portal for children. Utilising the blended learning approach it gives home schoolers and educators the ability to set learning, track the progress of the learners and personalising learning to each individual. Through a number of different subjects users work their way through lessons playing interactive games and learning as they go through the app.
What we love about ANTON
The sheer amount of content in the app is astounding and one of the main features of the app. I also really love the way that the lessons are broken down into smaller sections and that the games are interactive. This means that students are much more likely to interact with and use the app as opposed to if the app was more of a lecture based learning app.
What skills does it improve?
ANTON app allows users to develop their skills in a wide variety of ways. As the apps contains subjects such as English, maths the arts and music there are lots of skills to be developed. For instance in the English subject the learning is matched to the curriculum (as it in in the other subjects too) so under Year 1 students work their way through phonics, age appropriate sight words, comprehension and grammar and punctuation exercises.
What age is it appropriate for?
ANTON app has content that currently goes from 5-11 however a near future update will create content all the way to 18 for all subjects. As the learning links to the curriculums it aims to run through the whole school age.
Is ANTON easy to use?
For both the learner and the parent the app is incredibly easy to use and access.
How will students benefit?
Students will benefit from having a platform that has all the learning of the curriculum that they could require in the subjects listed. They could use the app in terms of blended learning or fully online learning if they are being home schooled for instance. Students will also benefit from adults/teachers being able to track their learning and progress and then being able to personalise their learning.
How will teachers benefit?
Teachers will benefit from knowing that the app contains all the learning, lessons and activities that are linked to the curriculum as well as being able to track the progress of the uses and so personalise any learning.
How will parents benefit?
Parents could benefit in a number of ways from this app. If they are engaged in home schooling then the app contains all the lessons and activities that they would need in the subjects the app covers. They are able to have their child work through the learning, stage by stage and be supported in knowing that their child is accessing the learning that they would be in the classroom. However, they may also benefit from the blended learning approach if their child isn’t being home schooled as they will be able compliment the learning in school from using the app at home.
What ANTON can improve on?
There aren’t really any things that I could say that the app needs to improve upon, the only one I can think of would be to add more subjects and to be able to cover more lessons.
How much does ANTON cost?
ANTON is free to download.
What is included with the free version vs. paid?
The free version gives the user access to all the content. The paid for version gives the user the ability to download subjects, groups and to learn without an internet connection. The content however, is the same in both version.
Is ANTON safe to use?
ANTON app content is completely child-friendly and contains no content that could be considered inappropriate or unsafe for children.
Overall rating of the app
ANTON app has received a 5 star EAS rating and this is due to the premise of the site, the learning within it and how the site goes about teaching the users. I was very much impressed by all aspects of ANTON.
