Killer SAT Grammar
Killer SAT Grammar is a very impressive app. Although it has been created for American students taking their SATs, UK students will equally benefit from the grammar lessons in the Secondary School years prior to GCSE. The app merits an EAS Certification of 5 Stars and EAS Recommended status without question.
Make sure that you have this app in your English grammar learning and practice arsenal because it covers extensively main grammar points of sentence structure and word order. This is one of those teaching tools that students will remember for life because it is engaging, thorough and the concepts are laid out in a very clear manner.
The app is presented using a “young” vernacular and the pictures and illustrations are fun and entertaining to look at. The explanations of the different grammar rules are easy to understand and are split into 10 categories. Each section contains a short video explaining the rule. There is a written section that reiterates the rule and a third, practice section in which the student can assess whether the sentence that he/she is presented with is correct or incorrect. If the student cannot decipher the rule, he/she can ask for a “tip” in order to make a judgement.
The app works well as a stand-alone product for the rules of; Modifiers, subject-verb agreement, direct expressions, economy of expression, comparison mismatch, indefinite pronouns and connecting two sentences with a comma. One of the things that we particularly liked is the euphemisms that the developers have used to explain the grammar rules; this makes it much easier to remember what each rule entails when faced with understanding the rule and correcting sentences.
Students will love using this app and we think that they will also go out of their way to find or ask more information if they cannot understand something.
The app is extremely easy to navigate and understand. Overal,l the team at Alea Iacta Est have done a fantastic job of merging curriculum concepts with design and technology.
We hope you enjoy using this app as much as we did!
From the Developer
Hundreds of my SAT students at Tom Clements Tutoring in the San Francisco Bay Area can attest that mastering this short and simple list of 9 -- that's it, just 9 -- user-friendly grammar rules is a surefire way to ace the SAT Writing section. These same rules are now incorporated in a cool, interactive app that provides three levels of expertise:
1) Study -- this concept level describes the 9 rules you need to obtain top scores on the grammar section. Graphics and a slideshow movie make the rules easy to learn and fun. Interactive practice questions for each rule reinforce the concepts.
2) Jumbles -- this strategic level mixes interactive questions from the first level in random order, forcing you to think on your feet.
3) Test -- this advanced level provides SAT-style questions specifically designed to reinforce the rules presented in the app.
